Planned Giving

Make your gift last beyond a life time

Do you believe in the magic of musical theater? Members of the Center Stage Society do! These members, who hold a position of great prominence and importance - or "center stage" - understand that their gifts will help ensure that The 5th has the resources it will need in the future. Additionally, many are able to make much larger gifts than possible in their lifetimes.

Center Stage Society members enjoy the following benefits:

  • Our gratitude to you for playing a part in ensuring that the inspiring work of The 5th will be here for future audiences
  • Recognition in every show program
  • An invitation for two to the Honors Dinner
  • Invitation to view rehearsals

How to make a Planned Gift

BEQUEST - Leave The 5th Avenue Theatre a gift in your will or living trust.
Bequests are the most popular type of deferred gift. You can include your gift in your original will or living trust or add one later with an amendment. The gift could be for a specific sum of money, piece of property, or a percentage of your estate.
Sample bequest language for a specific dollar amount or percentage gift:
"I gift to The 5th Avenue Theatre [Association], or its successor organization, a Washington State nonprofit corporation, ________________________ (dollar amount or percentage)"
Sample bequest language for a remainder gift:
"I gift to The 5th Avenue Theatre [Association], or its successor organization, a Washington State nonprofit corporation, the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate."
Sample bequest language for a contingent bequest:
"If [name/s of primary beneficiary/ies do/es not survive me, or shall die within ninety (90) days from the date of my death or as a result of a common disaster, then I gift to The 5th Avenue Theatre [Association], or its successor organization, ______________________________________ (dollar amount or percentage)."
Please note: This wording is intended to be sample wording only. It should not be relied upon as a substitute for professional legal advice.

IRA ROLLOVER - If you are over 70 1/2, avoid paying taxes on your Required Minimum Distribution by making a gift directly from your IRA.
Avoid possible tax implications of the Required Minimum Distributions from your tax-deferred retirement accounts by donating the distributions to The 5th. The law allows up to $100,000 to be given to charity each year and will avoid being counted in your income for the year.

BENEFICIARY - Talk to your HR Manager or Plan Administrator about making The 5th Avenue Theatre a beneficiary of your IRA/retirement plan, life insurance policy, or bank/brokerage accounts.
Making The 5th a beneficiary is among the easiest legacy gifts to arrange. Simply ask your plan administrator or the company that holds your retirement account, life insurance policy, or bank account for a beneficiary designation form. You can designate The 5th Avenue Theatre as the beneficiary of:
Retirement assets (IRA, 401(k), and 403(b) plans)

  • Life insurance policies
  • Bank accounts
  • Brokerage accounts
  • Commercial annuities

You can leave just a portion of The 5th or the entire balance, if you have otherwise provided for heirs. Beneficiary designations are completely revocable at any time. Gifts made this way will be fully deductible from your taxable estate.

OUTRIGHT GIFT - Minimize your capital gains or income taxes by making a gift of appreciated stock.
You can give stocks, bonds, and mutual fund shares to The 5th and receive an income tax deduction for the asset's full fair market value. Because there is no tax due on the capital gains, you essentially receive a deduction for income that was never taxed (applies to appreciated assets you have owned for over one year).
